Process for producing packing straps resistant to strapping stresses using thermoplastic material such as PP, PETP, PA, which are suitable for strapping machines and the ends of which can be welded, for example by frictional heat, a substrate being extruded, stretched and then wound up. A substrate comprising at least two layers is produced by way of coextrusion, one layer consisting of one of the plastics of the first group PP, PETP, PA, including filled material or material in the form of regrind, and the other layer being made up of another plastic which belongs to a second group, HD-PE, PE, PP.
