In ice accumulators, which are charged by direct vacuum evaporation, gaps 4 arise between the ice layer 2 and the heat-exchange surfaces in the case of simultaneous heat supply, which gaps greatly hinder further heat supply. The invention solves this disadvantage by the addition of water-soluble substances which only slightly lower the freezing point of the water filling. As a result of the addition, solid phases 5 and liquid phases 6 occur next to one another inside the evaporator 1. Gaps 4, which hinder the heat transmission, are thus avoided. Since, as a result of the addition, the density anomaly of pure water also disappears, a more uniform solidification temperature arises. <IMAGE>
