PURPOSE:To prevent a hermetically enclosed substance from scattering away and obtain a light emission tube with a sealed portion of high reliabiliy, by hermetically enclosing an amalgam of a metal having higher affinity to the halogen, to react with a halide of another metal having lower affinity to the halogen. CONSTITUTION:A light emission tube 1 housed in a hermetically closed container 5 is hermetically sealed at the opening 1a of one end of the tube with a glass solder 6 and a closer 2A supporting an electrode 3A secured thereto and is supported at the end thereof by a tube support 7. A substance 8 hermetically enclosed in the tube 1 comprises 17mg of an Na-Hg amalgam having an Na content of 10% by weight and introduced through the opening 1b of the unsealed other end of the tube, and an iodide ScI3. When the light emission tube 1 mounted in an outer tube is turned on through a lamp stabilizer for light emission, a reaction (Na-Hg amalgam) (Na+Hg) and (Na+ScI3) (NaI+Sci3+ Sc) takes place.
