The invention relates to a single-shaft positive mixer which is essentially inclined at approximately 45 DEG during the mixing process. The mixing tools preferably work upwards, so that intensive mixing is achieved in a very small volume in 4 zones. Emptying is performed by tilting the axis to the horizontal or below. One end can be completely open or sealed by elastic material or by a gravity-seal plate. For certain materials to be mixed, a tight plate closure can be arranged on the mixing vessel end or at the top or bottom casing part. The mixer axis can be displaced from the mixing vessel axis so that a kneading mixing action is achieved. The mixer constructed and operating in this manner can be provided with a heating or cooling jacket. By alterating the angle of inclination and/or the rotary speed, adaptation to the most varied types of mixing processes is achievable very economically. For particularly difficult materials to be mixed, bottom emptying in combination with reversal of direction of rotation is provided with constant axial position. <IMAGE>
