PURPOSE:To simplify the structure, to reduce the cost of the titled device and to improve the positioning accuracy by constituting an H-shaped actuator by an expansion/contraction member made of a piezoelectric element having an electrostriction effect. CONSTITUTION:The H-shaped actuator is constituted by combining expansion/ compression members 14-16 made of the piezoelectric element having the electrostriction effect and the actuator is connected with a head carriage 7 provided with a read/write magnetic head 6 by using a connection member 19. The expansion/compression member 16 is expanded by using a controller 17 of an applied voltage controlling the expansion/contraction of the members 14-16 independently, to expand the member 15, to expand the member 14 and to contract the members 16, 15 and to expand the member 16 thereby moving the head carriage 7 upward along sliding rods 9, 10.
