PURPOSE:To simplify a sail itself and a spreading and contracting mechanism and lower the cost of manufacture by providing longitudinal frames on both right and left sides of a sail and forming lateral frames provided in between said longitudinal frames with air bags. CONSTITUTION:A sail 5 is provided on a post 4 erected on a bow part and the sail 5 is formed by spreading a flexible film-like object on the front of a rectangular frame 6. The frame body 6 consists of longitudinal frames 8 on both right and left sides and a number of lateral frames 9, each of which is formed into a hollow cylindrical air bag structure with an airtight film-like object so as to be spreadable and contractible. The central part of the lateral frame 9 is made of a rigid member to install a revolving shaft 10, which, in turn, is rotatably installed on supporting boards 11 fixed to the post 4, and revolved by a revolving means. Further, a wire 18 which is fixed to the longitudinal frame 8 is wound up around a winch 19 through the inside of the revolving shaft 10, to draw the longitudinal frames near and fold the sail 5 compactly.
