Liquid chlorinated hydrocarbon wastes are treated, in order that metal impurities in the wastes are removed. The waste stream is contacted with aqueous soln. containing 0.1-10 wt.% of inorganic acid, and then this mixt. is separated into organic phase and aqueous phase. The main impurity is iron salt and the inorganic salt is hydrochloric acid. The volume ratio of liquid waste to acidic aqueous soln. is 1:1.
