A description is given of a universally applicable pressure sensor which operates particularly reliably while dispensing with mechanically moving parts. The pressure sensor consists of a pressure member, which supports a structured, amorphous and magnetostrictive metal layer, and of a sensor part, which has a measuring and reference circuit. In the case of mechanical stresses occurring in the pressure member, a change in magnetic permeability takes place via the magnetoelastic coupling in the metal layer and causes via the measuring circuit a change in inductivity and is used by comparison with the reference circuit to generate a voltage signal analogous to the pressure.
