PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for heat- resistant and high-strength fibers and resins simply, by reacting an iodated diphenyl which is readily obtainable and inexpensive as a raw material with carbon monoxide in the presence of both a basic substance and a catalyst containing a transition metal compound by the use of a specific amount of water. CONSTITUTION:An iodated diphenyl or a brominated diphenyl is used as a raw material is reacted with carbon monoxide in the presence of both a basic substance and a catalyst containing a transition metal compound in water or a solvent system containing water at 5-100kg/cm<2> gauge pressure preferably at 100 deg.C-200 deg.C to give the aimed compound. The amount of water used is >=equivalent based on halogen of the iodated diphenyl or brominated diphenyl. Preferably 4-iododiphenyl or 4,4'-diiododiphenyl are used as the iodated diphenyl and 4-bromodiphenyl, etc., as the brominated diphenyl. |
