Telescopic shock absorber leg with variable pneumatic suspension for the front wheels of motor cycles, which telescopic shock absorber leg encloses a volume of gas (2) between an outer pipe and an inner pipe (1) which is axially displaceable therein. By inserting a cylinder bushing (4) into the outer pipe or inner pipe (1), a subsidiary chamber (3) is formed which is connected via an opening in the base (7) of the cylinder bushing (4) to the volume of gas (2). In the opening, a ball valve is arranged inclined in such a way that the ball (11) of the ball valve in the normal position is moved into its open position under the influence of gravity and, when the motor cycle is braked, is moved into its closed position under the effect of inertia. In this way, when braking occurs, the pneumatic suspension is automatically hardened in order largely to prevent a pitching motion of the motor cycle. <IMAGE>
