It is common to remove tobacco smoke by opening the windows in rooms where there is a lot of smoking going on, in particular in conference rooms. It is known, furthermore, to switch on ventilators to ventilate the room. To achieve an as quick and effective removal of tobacco smoke as possible in rooms, it is proposed according to the invention to arrange sensors (4, 5) preferably in the region of the light sources of a room, which emit heat rays (6) and thus cause the tobacco smoke to rise, and to connect the sensors (4, 5) to one another by cable or radio, a switching sequence from sensor to sensor to the nearby ventilator (8) via the existing clouds of smoke being ensured. The sensors (4, 5) are linked to one another by cable connections and/or radio contacts which trigger the desired switching operations, for example the switching-on of one or more ventilators. <IMAGE>
