PURPOSE:To produce high-quality, uniform yarn securing stable passage of pitch yarn to an infusible treatment furnace, by adding a heat-resistant finishing oil to pitch yarn obtained by melt spinning and subjecting the yarn to infusible treatment. CONSTITUTION:Carbonaceous pitch is subjected to melt spinning to give pitch yarn (number of filament is 50-1,000), which is doubled (number of filaments is changed to 200-50,000). The prepared yarn bundle is passed through an oxidizing atmosphere, made infusible, subjected to a first heat treatment in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at <=1,800 deg.C and then to a second heat treatment in an inert gas atmosphere at <=3,000 deg.C to give carbon yarn. In the operation, the yarn before the infusible treatment is provided with a heat-resistant finishing oil. Addition of the heat-resistant finishing oil is carried out during yarn doubling and/or after yarn doubling. An alkylphenylpolysiloxane is especially preferable as the heat-resistant finishing oil. |
