PURPOSE:To obtain the titled sealing material which does not cause deformation, cracking, foaming, etc. under high pressure and has excellent gas barrier and pressure sealing properties, by subjecting a gas-impermeable rubber to primary crosslinking with a hot press and then to secondary crosslinking with a radiation. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. gas-impermeable rubber such as NBR, etc. is blended with 100-200pts.wt. MT carbon black having a large particle size or a mixture thereof with 1-40pts.wt. acetylene black to obtain a gas-impermeable rubber contg. the filler uniformly dispersed therein. The rubber is heated with a hot press to carry out primary crosslinking. The rubber is then irradiated with a radiation such as gamma-rays of Co<60> at a dose of 1-100Mrad in the presence of optionally, a polyfunctional compd. such as tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate, etc., to carry out secondary crosslinking.
