PURPOSE:To make it possible to easily prepare a monomolecular built-up film within a short time, by supporting a membrane rich in flexibility being a sub strate so as to protrude the same downwardly and contacting the central part of said membrane with a liquid surface on which a monomolecular film compris ing an amphipathic material freely floats in this state. CONSTITUTION:A monomolecular film 4 of an amphipathic material made liquid by dissolving the same in a solvent is allowed to float on the liquid surface in a water tank 1. Next, a hydrophobic membrane 5 rich in flexibility comprising a high-molecular compound is supported at both ends thereof so that the central part thereof is suspended in a protruded state and contacted with the liquid surface. Whereupon, said membrane 5 is closely adhered to the liquid surface to be spread thereon and the monomolecular film 4 is adhered to the under surface of the membrane 5. When the membrane 5 after the film was adhered is separated from the membrane 5, said membrane 5 is smoothly separated without changing the contact angle of the point where the membrane 5 is separated from the liquid surface and, therefore, the monomolecular film 4 of the amphipathic material is transferred onto the membrane 5 without disturbing the sequential arrangement of said film 4.
