<p>The invention relates to a space heating system comprising an air cooled solar collector (1), a heat store (2), air ducting (10), a forced draught mechanism (11, 12), valves (13,14), auxiliary heating means (6, 7) and a control system.</p><p>According to the invention the auxiliary heating means includes a heat pump (6). The heat pump (6) and heat store (2) are located in a thermally insulated air-tight housing (15) divided into different regions for the evaporator (6a), condensor (6b) and heat store (2). The heating system is operable in a mode in which it circulates air from the heat store (2) to the heat pump evaporator (6a) and back in a closed air-tight circuit while simultaneously circulating air from the heat pump condenser (6b) to the space (3) to be heated and back. The arrangement minimises heat loss and defrosting of the heat pump evaporator (6a).</p><p>The invention also provides air ducting (9) made from lengths of foamed plastics material and provided with a vapour-proof lining, the lengths being seamless.</p> |
