A carrier for holding a central die part within an extruder for making tubes comprises a support 11 having an end 11a for carrying the central die part, and one or more helical mixing ribs 5, 6, 7, on the end 11b designed to allow some of the material to pass freely through an axially extending passage or passages 10, whilst the remainder follows a helical mixing path. The carrier 11 is mounted in a carrier ring 3 secured in a groove 4 in the extrusion apparatus. Bores 12, 13 extend from the ring 3 through to the end 1 la of the carrier to supply cooling water and French chalk for lubrication, to the central die part.</p> |
