PURPOSE:To make it possible to stabilize the quality of articles, to enhance the efficiency and to reduce the cost, by providing a longitudinal feeder, a transverse feeder, a bending tool and a pair of static core shafts to enable highly accurate bending. CONSTITUTION:A band-like workpiece W is clamped between gripping plates 112 in a longitudinal feeder 2, and is advanced by means of a cylinder 107 to be located by a stopper 119 before it is gripped by a stationary member 92 and a movable member 93 in a transverse feeder 93. Further, a drive section turns a bending tool 5 along the outer peripheral surface of a core shaft by 180 deg. to bend the workpiece W into a U-like shape. During this step, the longitudinal feeder 2 is returned to its retracted position to grip the workpiece W which is therefore advanced by a pitch corresponding to the bending. The bending toll 5 is pulled up to a height exceeding the side edge of the workpiece W, and is reversed to be returned to the original point while the workpiece is moved by the transverse feeder 3 to the surface facing the other core shaft 4 so that it is bent into a reversed U-like form by the bending tool 5 similar to that mentioned above. With the repetition of the steps, a meandering bent plate is accurately formed.
