PURPOSE:To prevent a sudden change of the behavior of a vehicle accompanying the change of characteristics and improve safety by providing a characteristic changeover means for rear wheel steering ratio, a vehicle speed detecting means, and a characteristic change restricting means for changing the rear wheel steering ratio characteristic when the vehicle speed is below the defined value of a low speed or zero according to both of said means. CONSTITUTION:The captioned device has a characteristic changeover means for changing the characteristic of a rear wheel steering ratio, a vehicle speed detecting means, and a characteristic change restricting means for changing the rear wheel steering ratio characteristic when receiving signals from both the means and if the vehicle speed is below the defined value of a low speed or zero. This is to change the characteristic of the steering ratio on condition that the vehicle speed is zero or below a defined speed, seeing that when a vehicle speed is low a change of the behavior of a vehicle accompanying the change of the steering ratio characteristic is also gentle. Accordingly, since the change of the steering ratio characteristic is carried out in a condition that the vehicle speed is a low speed or zero, a sudden change of the behavior of a vehicle accompanying the change of characteristics can be prevented, improving safety. |
