PURPOSE:To enable a ribbon feed quantity and a printing pressure to be controlled according to the kind of a ribbon used and enhance printing quality, by providing a means for discriminating the kind of the ribbon. CONSTITUTION:A means 5 for detecting binary coded information is provided at a part on a carriage 3 corresponding to a coded region 4 of a ribbon cassette 1. A microprocessor 11 is connected to a light-receiving circuit 10 of the detecting means 5. The microprocessor 11 reads the binary coded information supplied through the detecting means 5, and supplies information for controlling the feed quantity of a ribbon 2 to a ribbon feed driving circuit 12 in accordance with the kind of the ribbon 2. In addition, the microprocessor 11 supplies a hammer-driving circuit 13 with information for controlling a printing pressure according to a command predetermined by the kind of the ribbon 2, in response to the binary coded information. |
