PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound simply at low cost in high yield in high selectivity by easy separation and purification, by using a specific 1,4- dihydropyridine derivative and an amino-alcohol derivative as raw materials, dehydrating and carrying out condensation reaction. CONSTITUTION:A 1,4-dihydropyridine derivative shown by formula I is hydrolyzed in a hydrous organic solvent by the use of an alkali medium to give 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3'-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dic-arboxylic acid methyl ester shown by formula II, which is reacted with N-benzyl-N-methylaminoethanol shown by formula III in an inert solvent such as dichloromethane, etc., in the presence of BF3 ether complex at room temperature - 100 deg.C, especially preferably 50-80 deg.C for several hours, dehydrated and condensed to give a 1,4- dihydropyrrolidine shown by formula IV. USE:A hypotensive and a varodilator, especially coronary and cerebrovascular vasodilator.
