PURPOSE:To contrive a reduction in the cost of a platen, by a double construction comprising an inner cylindrical member formed of a foamed thermoplastic resin around a core member of a platen, and an annular outer cylindrical member formed of a synthetic elastomer and covering the inner cylindrical member. CONSTITUTION:An inner cylindrical member 2 of a platen is provided by foaming a thermoplastic resin, e.g., a polystyrene resin, a polypropylene resin, a polyethylene resin or a polyamide resin, and is filled with foams. An outer cylindrical member 3 is formed from a synthetic elastomer, e.g., a polyamide elastomer, a polyurethane elastomer or a polyester elastomer. When a core member 1 of the platen is rotated, the inner cylindrical member 2 and the annular outer cylindrical member 3 are also rotated together, thereby feeding a recording paper. The outer cylindrical member 3 damps the shock on printing by an annular part formed of the elastomer. The inner cylindrical member 2, which is formed of the foamed resin, is capable of absorbing vibrations and shocks generated on printing, and can be produced by using a reduced amount of resin. Accordingly, the cost of the platen can be lowered.
