NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R1 and R2 are H, halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy) and an acid addition salt thereof. EXAMPLE:N-[4-[4-(4-Chlorophenyl)butoxy]phenylmethyl]phthalimide. USE:A preventive and remedy for hyperlipemia and arterioschlerosis having improved liquid reducing action. PREPARATION:A 4-hydroxybenzamide derivative shown by formula II is reacted with a 4-(4-chlorophenyl)butyl halide shown by formula III (X is halogen) in the presence of a base (e.g, sodium hydroxide) in a solvent such as dimethylformamide at 0-200 deg.C to give a compound shown by formula I.
