PURPOSE:To improve the shape of winding and eliminate bad influences given by a magnetic field to performance of a tape by taking up the magnetic tape applying a magnetic field that gives energizing force in a fixed direction to the tape, and demagnetizing after termination of taking-up. CONSTITUTION:A pair of permanent magnets 19 are attached to the body of a take-up 1 supported by a non-magnetic support 20 around a tape reel 2 that takes up a magnetic tape T. Different poles of the permanent magnets 19 are opposed, and direction of the magnetic field is nearly along the radial direction of the tape reel 2, and energizing force in a fixed direction is given to the magnetic tape T by the magnetic field. Magnetic tapes attract each other in the direction of thickness, and frictional force between tapes becomes large, and thereby, deviation of winding of the magnetic tape T in the direction of width of the tape can be suppressed. Magnetization of the magnetic tape T taken up in the magnetic field is degaussed by passing through a degausser.
