PURPOSE:To speed up reading of succeeding similar data blocks by rearranging disposition of all data blocks to minimize seeking time of all succeeding relevant data blocks at the time of reading. CONSTITUTION:In case of reading of file data (data blocks a-f belonging to a file A) of a main CPU, data blocks a-f in an auxiliary memory are read in this order referring to a contingency table in a main memory and written in corresponding areas in the main memory. Data blocks a-f in the auxiliary memory are rearranged to minimize a seeking time (especially, number of times of track seeking), and physical addresses for each data block a-f in the contingency table are rearranged and renewed. Data blocks a-f in the main memory are written in the auxiliary memory so as to attain the arrangement corresponding to renewed physical addresses. Thus, reading and renewed writing of succeeding data blocks a-f in order can be made at a high speed in a minimum seeking time.
