PURPOSE:To improve recording efficiency and reproduction output by providing the 1st coating type magnetic film contg. high permeability magnetic powder and carbon black on a base surface and providing the 2nd coating type magnetic film contg. hexagonal ferrite magnetic powder and contg. substantially no carbon black thereon. CONSTITUTION:The 1st coating type magnetic film is constituted of the magnetic film of the coating type contg. the high permeability magnetic powder such as, for example, 'Permalloy(R)', 'Sendust(R)', Mn-Zn ferrite or Cu-Zn ferrite and the carbon black. The 2nd coating type magnetic film is constituted of the magnetic film of the coating type contg. the hexagonal ferrite magnetic powder such as barium ferrite and contg. substantially no carbon black. The magnetic recording medium which excels extremely in characteristics including recording density, reproduction output, overwrite characteristic, surface electric resistance, surface roughness, etc., is thus obtd.
