PURPOSE:To obtain a line printer in which it is easy to know where to start a recovery processing when defective printing occurs, by automatically performing a test printing when a predetermined period of time passes. CONSTITUTION:A clock-generation circuit 16 generates clock pulses 16a with a fixed period, and when a predetermined period of time is counted by a timer circuit 1, a test printing request 1a is applied to a test printing controlling circuit 2. On the other hand, the width of a printing paper 11 set to a line printer is detected by a paper width detecting mechanism 13, and paper width information 13a is applied to the circuit 2. The circuit 2 commands a test data generating circuit 4 to generate printing data codes, and when data for one line are sent to a printing data memory 5, an optimum test printing conforming to the fitted condition of the printing paper is performed, and test data printing is automatically performed each time printing is performed for a predetermined period of time. |
