PURPOSE:To save man-hours and to improve an accuracy by setting automatically an illuminating quantity corresponding to an element to be image picked-up. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 14, in which software is actually loaded, a digital value in accordance with the kind of element to be image picked-up to a D/A converter 13, and therefore, an analog voltage in correspondence to the type is outputted from the D/A converter 13. An electric current control means is operated by the output and an electric current in accordance with it flows from a constant voltage source to an illuminating device 8. Namely, at the illuminating device, the illuminating quantity in correspondence to the type can be obtained. A semiconductor chip 1 is illuminated by the illuminating device 8 having such an illuminating quantity, the image of the semiconductor chip 1 is formed at a camera part 4 as well as the conventional device, converted to an electric signal, a pattern is recognized based upon the electric signal and displayed on a monitor TV 5.
