PURPOSE:To simplify the preparation of an index for retrieval and the operation of the index, by generating a mask signal in accordance with a parital area indicated with a light pen, and combining, edition and recording the obtained partial pictures. CONSTITUTION:When a code of an editing mode is keyed in from a keyboard 2, a control unit 3 sends information to an address control device 5, the device 5 sends an address in which a sorting table has been recorded, to a picture storage device 6, stores the sorting table in a 1 frame memory 4, and also displays it on a CRT7. Subsequently, in accordance with a partial area indicated with a light pen 10, a code is generated from a mask signal generator 11, and the indicated partial picture is transferred to a buffer memory 8. Picture transferred to this memory 8 are combined and edited, a new picture is sent to the device 5 and the device 6, and a code generated by the generator 11 is recorded in the device 6. |
