PURPOSE:To prevent excessive compensation caused by difference of characteristics of magnetic storing means by providing plural equalizing circuits having different equalizing characteristics, selecting a equalizing circuit having characteristics suitable for characteristic of inputted reading signals and making amplitude equalizing. CONSTITUTION:Maximum value and minimum value of solitary wave half-value width are estimated and the extent is divided into five. Equalizing characteristics of equalizing circuits 2-5 are set to make good equalizing possible for reading waveform having solitary wave half-value width of fractionated extent. A selector circuit 10 inputs a selection signal 14, output of a storage circuit 13, and outputs one of five input signals correspondingly. When setting internal information of the storage circuit 13, the waveform of a reading signal at chief recording positions of each head is examined in manufacturing process of a magnetic disk device and values corresponding to each are determined. Thus, the influences of excessive compensation of an equalizing circuit caused by dispersion of characteristics of magnetic heads and magnetic disks and the difference of characteristics in inner and outer peripheries of a magnetic disk can be eliminated.
