PURPOSE:To select easily a symbol by renewing a displaying sequence concerning a symbol selected in both Japanese mode and English mode at the time of the symbol included in both the Japanese mode and the English mode is selected out of many symbols which is not arranged on a keyboard. CONSTITUTION:A symbol CG40 stores the pattern of many symbols which are not arranged on a keyboard 10, and is composed of the first area used by a Japanese mode only, the second area used by an English mode only and the third area used commonly by the Japanese mode and the English mode. When the symbol included in the third area of the symbol CG40 is selected, regardless of the input data set then, the displaying sequence of a symbol set including the symbol concerning both sequence memory J50 and sequence memory E52 is made into 1. Thus, after the input mode is changed over, the symbol set including the symbol used previously is first displayed, the renewal of the displaying sequence is executed by a symbol set unit, and therefore, selection can be very easily executed.
