Process for recovering molybdenum trioxide from contaminated raw materials

For the economical recovery of very pure molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) from MoS2-containing contaminated raw materials, there is proposed according to the invention a process which is characterised in that the MoS2-containing raw materials are treated in a suspension melt process in an oxidising atmosphere and at temperatures which are sufficiently high for the molybdenum to be volatilised as trioxide, and that the molybdenum trioxide is condensed in solid form from the flue gases containing molybdenum trioxide vapour by flue gas cooling.
