The invention relates to a device and a manipulation method for removing contaminated and/or radioactive components (12, 14, 16) in a nuclear reactor, in particular in a high-temperature reactor, having a reactor pressure vessel (10) to which the components (12, 14) are connected. It is provided in this arrangement that accident-prone components (12, 14, 16) exhibit a radiologically safe encapsulation (20) which is formed from a hood-shaped housing with a closure cover (22, 23, 24, 26, 28), and that they are joined to at least one common flange of the components which is used in the installed state to fasten the components (12, 14, 16) to the accommodating part. When being removed, the components (12, 14, 16) are separated from the accommodating part and raised from their installed position so that a closure cover (22, 23, 24, 26, 28) can be attached. This closure cover (22, 23, 24, 26, 28) guarantees the encapsulation is terminated safely in terms of pressure and radiation. <IMAGE>
