PURPOSE:To obtain a paint having an excellent antistatic effect, by dispersing carbon fiber powder in a paint vehicle. CONSTITUTION:An antistatic paint is obtd. by dispersing fine powders of carbon fiber in a paint vehicle. When the paint is applied to an article which is easily charged, the carbon fiber is randomly arranged in the resulting coating film and part thereof protrudes from the surface of the coating film, so that static electricity is discharged in the air. Pref. the carbon fiber powder should be as fine as possible from the viewpoints of the dispersibility thereof in the paint vehicle, workability, etc. However, the fineness of the carbon fiber must be such that it retains its fiber form, because it must protrude from the surface of the coating film. Pref. the carbon fiber powder has a particle size of about 300 mesh.
