PURPOSE:To easily and rapidly perform an editing operation for texts having different text forms by performing automatically a switching between a Japanese input mode and an English input mode, and the switching of the mode of a keyboard fitting for an editing process proper to each input mode, and an input mode designated by a cursor. CONSTITUTION:For example, when the text has been inputted with the Japanese mode, and an input with the English mode is requested, an English alteration key is inputted, and it is inputted to a CPU12. The CPU12 stores an address data designated by the present cursor at the vacant address area (a) of a document data area in a text buffer 3, and sets a flag which represents the English mode at a corresponding text form area (b). When the English mode is set, it is also possible to select the style of an English character, for example, a pica character designation key on an input device 1 is operated, and it is outputted to the CPU12. The CPU12 retrieves an address corresponding to the address where the present cursor is positioned from the address area (a), and stores a code (for example, PiTcH=1) which designates the pica character at a corresponding style area (c).
