The invention relates to a circuit for operating a fluorescent lamp having a fluorescent lamp tube. The invention is based on the object of creating a circuit for operating a fluorescent lamp, which can be accommodated in a confined space and in the case of which the use of elements which are susceptible to defects (interference) is avoided. The object has been achieved according to the invention by means of a circuit which is distinguished by a diode, which is connected in parallel with the fluorescent lamp tube, and by a capacitor which is connected in series upstream of the network formed by the diode and the fluorescent lamp tube. An independent solution of the object according to the invention is distinguished by at least one triggered four-layer semiconductor element which is connected in parallel with the fluorescent lamp tube and is in each case connected to the second connection of the preheating filaments.
