A brake pressure control unit for a pressure medium-operable dual circuit vehicle brake system has at least one valve (11) (control valve), closing at a predefinable control pressure, inserted into the connection between an inlet chamber (12') and an outlet chamber (18). In order to achieve a reliable response of the brake in the lower pressure range, in which no risk of locking generally exists, a bypass (3) is proposed, which connects the inlet chamber (12') to the outlet chamber (18), bypassing the valve (11) and in which a valve (6) is connected, which closes as a function of the pressure. <IMAGE>
