A cylinder (1) is provided with a multiplicity of elastic or resilient bristles (11), which project beyond the cylinder circumference, for cleaning machines, scraping machines, machines for removing carpet remains, stuck-on building waste, such as mortar, other waste and the like, from floors, walls, tiles and the like. In each case one or more bristles (11) are attached by attachment members (14) in a bore (12) in the cylinder casing. The cylinder (1) has an inner cylinder casing (3), in which the bristles (11) are attached by means of the attachment members (14) in the bores (12), and an outer cylinder casing (4) which is likewise provided with bores for the passage of the bristles (11) and is made of softer material in relation to the inner cylinder casing (3) and is elastically resilient. <IMAGE>
