The invention relates to a device 1 for pressing especially plastically deformable foodstuffs, such as meat products, sausage products and farinaceous products with a piston press 2 having a filling pipe 3. On a base frame 9 there is arranged a frame 10, in which a reception container 8, which in general takes the form of an elongated hollow body, for the deformable foodstuffs is mounted so as to be pivotable on one side. The filling pipe 3 is arranged on one of the end sections 7. The piston 12 of the piston press 2 is introduced into the other end section 11 of the reception container 8, the rod 13 of the said piston being horizontally mounted on the frame 10 and being in releasable operational engagement with an actuating device 14. The actuating device 14 may have a ratchet-like engagement element 37 which can be actuated by means of a lever 36 and is in operational engagement with the piston rod 13 in the advancing direction of the piston press 2.
