A process is specified for reducing the diameter of a tube of thermoformable material, in which according to the invention the tube (1) is covered with a shrink tube (3), if appropriate after introducing a stepped-down anchorage part, and this arrangement is heated above the softening temperature of the tube and the shrinking temperature of the shrink tube, thereby causing a thermoforming of the tube (1) which does not revert to the original state once the arrangement cools down. In this way, considerably increased tensile forces can be transferred onto a tube, in particular in the case of tubes with incorporated reinforcing threads. <IMAGE>
