TOBACCO RODS AND FILTERS

A tobacco containing cigarette filter plug (10) comprises a filter element (12) contained in wrap material (14). The filter element consists of strands of tobacco material which are bound with an activated binding agent. The filter plug exhibits good firmness and integrity, and provides a cigarette exhibiting a unique tobacco taste. Such a filter plug is prepared by forming an intimate admixture of tobacco material and binding agent, forming a rod and activating the binding agent.
