The element (1) made of a transparent material comprises a plane face (10) and a face broken up into facets (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) which are arranged so as to limit prisms having parallel summit ridges (7, 8). Depending on the angle of incidence ( beta 2, beta 3) of parallel radiation (r1, r2, r3) striking one of the faces and depending on the construction parameters of the element and of the panel of which it forms part, the radiation is transmitted through the panel (p1, p2) or reflected from the side of the face (10) (re3). Depending on the choice, of the inclinations of the facets, the directions from the source (S) which are included between certain angular sectors are either reflected or transmitted depending on the point of impact of the ray, the facets oriented in one direction (2, 4, 6) exerting in this case a total reflection effect whereas the facets oriented in the other direction (3, 5) exert a transmission effect for the rays which strike them. <IMAGE>
