PURPOSE:To increase the number of correction processing iteration times in a fixed time and to improve error correction ability by skipping the correction processing of an error-free series which does not require correction. CONSTITUTION:Reproduction data whose error is detected, and a word pointer showing the error of each word is detected or not are written in RAMs 1 and 2, respectively, and the address of the RAMs 1 and 2 are generated by an address generator circuit 3. The data and word pointer stored in the RAMs 1 and 2 are supplied to a correction circuit 5 through a switching circuit 4. For correcting a series P, nine word pointers in the initial series are read out of the RAM 2. If one word has an error, it is corrected by the circuit 5, and written in the RAM 1. If there is no error in the words, correction is not made. This correction processing is repeatedly applied to each series. A series Q is corrected in the same manner.
