Process and device for dispensing electrically conductive liquids The underlying principle of the atomising process is to let the liquid out of an opening at such a low flow velocity that the initially cohesive thread of liquid automatically disintegrates into individual drops. By applying an electric voltage to the thread of liquid it is then possible to generate a cone of droplets and to stabilise the drop size. In practice this is done by passing the liquid through a large number of capillaries which are parallel from the flow-engineering point of view and act as distributing elements. Each of these capillaries is enclosed by a concentric protective sheath which is at the same electric potential as the capillaries. A high voltage, namely a voltage of 10 to 50 kV, applies between the capillaries and earth. The entire device can be designed in a space-saving manner as a portable appliance and has been found to be particularly suitable in agriculture for dispensing aqueous crop protection formulations.
