PURPOSE:To obtain a device with high reliability by providing an actuator interlocking with a carriage with a fixed member and a rotating member integrally formed with the rotating shaft of the actuator and using an elastic body for at least one of them. CONSTITUTION:While a magnetic disk 4 is driven by a motor and rotates with a spindle 3, a positioning command is received from a master device. Then a positioning control circuit (not shown in figure) instructs the carriage 5, which executes a seeking action including a quick reciprocating movement. At that time the carriage 5 has the mass of the reciprocating part and movement energy in proportion to the product of the square of the speed. If the carriage 5 runs away, impact force equivalent to the energy arises. As the rotating member 9 is integral with the rotating central shaft of the actuator, it moves in relatively relating to the reciprocating movement of the carriage 5. Moreover said member 9 can contact the elastic fixed member 8, whereby the movement energy is absorbed at the time of run-away, and impact force is minimized. Accordingly a fault given to a magnetic disk device is made smaller.
