PURPOSE:To manufacture composite member having improved wear resistance of surface, by high pressure casting a matrix metal material and a composite compact composed of low m.p. metal powder and heat resisting fiber to one body, next, heating it to elute low m.p. metal and form recesses. CONSTITUTION:Heat resisting fiber such as alumina silica fiber and low m.p. metal powder such as Pb are mixed and the composite compact 1 is prepd. therefrom. The compact 1 is arranged in a metal mold 2, a molten metal 4 of Al, Fe, Mg, Zn or alloy of these is poured and these are high pressure cast to compact the matrix metal material 4 and the compact 1 to one body. The obtd. sleeve material 5 is hammered into a bore hole 7 of a cylinder block 6, and inner surface of the material 5 is roughing and honing. Next, inner surface of the sleeve 5 is heated to elute low m.p. metal grains 8 in the vicinity thereof and the fine recesses 11 for oil sump are formed. In this way, composite member such as bearing having dispersed heat resisting fibers 10 in the matrix 9 and the recesses 11 on the surface can be formed.
