PURPOSE:To position a head by simply adjusting the position of a head moving mechanism by moving the head to any positions obtained from prescribed position information stored on a disk and drive amount information on a head drive mechanism. CONSTITUTION:According to the instructions of a control part 2 a carriage drive part 5 moves the carriage 7 to a stopper part. A detection part 9 detects the arrival of the carriage 7, transmit an interruption signal to the control part 2, stores position information given to a drive part 5 in a memory part 17, and moves the carriage 7 to the N-th track on an adjusting disk. A track position detector 14 discriminates the arrival, transmits the interruption signal to the control part 2, and stores position information given to the drive part 5 in the memory part 17. Accordingly position information on the origin of the carriage 7 and position information on the N-th track are stored in the memory part 17, and the control part 2 controls the position information on the N-th track and the rotating angle of a motor, and positions a recording and reproducing head on any tracks on the recording disk.
