PURPOSE:To destaticize an electrostatic charge part without damaging a photosensitive body by driving a motor for driving the photosensitive body only for a prescribed period after stopping a driving motor for a carrying device at the generation of jam of transfer paper and driving also a charging device and an erasing device for a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:When jam is generated during copying, the carrying device is separated from the photosensitive body 107, a carriage driving motor is stopped and a photosensitive driving motor, an electrostatic charger, an eraser, etc., are driven and a timer is set up. If the time required for charging a part L2 by the charger 108 exceeds L2/v when the linear speed of the photosensitive body 107 is (v), the operation of the charger 108 is disabled. Similarly, the operation of the eraser 109 is disabled after the time of (l1+L2)/v. When a distance from the eraser 109 up to a cleaning device 127 is L3, the photosensitive body driving motor is disabled and the jam is displayed if the time required for passing a part l2 through the cleaning device exceeds L3/v.
