PURPOSE:To improve the rigidity of a device by storing a light source part, a deflecting system and other respective members in a base with high rigidity which is formed by a frame having an H-shaped section. CONSTITUTION:An approximately horizontal diaphragm 5 is unitedly arranged between the side plates 6 of the base 3 having the H-shaped section. In a space formed on the upper part of the diaphragm 5, the deflecting system 10, image forming lens groups 12, 14, 16, a reflecting mirror 28, a reflecting mirror 18 to be a horizontally synchronizing signal detecting means, a photodetecting element 20, etc., are arranged on the upper surface of the diaphragm 5. On the other hand, a driving device 30 for the deflecting system, an electric circuit substrate 32 etc., are arranged in a space formed on the lower part of the diaphragm 5. Consequently, an optical scanner compact as a whole and having high rigidity can be obtained.
