PURPOSE:To allow one tape drive system and one head to edit and to lighten signal deterioration and frequency variance by storing a reproduction signal as a digital signal, and reading and recording a signal based on a control signal. CONSTITUTION:The output signal of a demodulator 2 to which the reproduction output of a recording and reproducing head 1 is supplied is converted 3 into a digital signal and stored in a memory 4. Its signal is supplied to a D/A converter 6 based on the control signal from a control circuit 5, and data converted into an analog signal is supplied to the head 1 through a modulator 7 to record. Thus signals necessary for edition are provisionally stored in the memory 4, read out of the memory 4 at the prescribed timing by the circuit 5, supplied to the head 1, and recorded on a tape 8, whereby one set of a tape drive system and the head 1 can edit.
