PURPOSE:To obtain a plastic product formed with characters, symbols, etc., like openwork by forming a closed loop-like light transmissive nonconductive masking layer to part to a thin light transmissive conductive film formed on a plastic and forming an electrical surface treatment layer on the thin conductive film. CONSTITUTION:The thin light transmissive conductive film 2 such as thin metallic film having a prescribed wall thickness is formed on the surface of the plastic 1 and the closed loop-like parts (0, characters, symbols, etc.) are formed of the thin light transmissive nonconductive film 3 on the thin film 2. The surface of the plastic 1 on which the film 2 is not formed is pretreated with a chromic acid-sulfuric acid soln., or the like and is then stuck with the nucleus of a catalyst metal by stannous chloride, etc., by which the surface is activated. A chemical plating layer 4 is formed to the prescribed point of such surface by chemical plating. At least the thin conductive film 2 is subjected to the electrical surface treatment such as electrodeposition painting to form electroplating layers 5 on the inside and outside via the closed loop-like part of the nonconductive masking layer 3. The plastic product formed with the characters, etc., like openwork is thus simply and easily formed.
